What a beautiful day to be out racing with Team HRR! The first fixture of the Southern Cross Country League at Benyon’s Inclosure and a great performance by our club, with a team of 11 ladies and 12 men. The course was challenging but fun, with some steep but short hills, some lovely runnable bits, a few tricky tree roots to navigate and the ‘river’ crossing – slightly diminished to more of a ditch this year!

Many congrats to our scorers for the ladies – Ruth Briggs and Helen Straker (both top 10!), Lucie Lawton and myself – and to Lizzie Gatherer, Charley Howard, Jo Goode, Mimi Reed, Jane Mercer, Claire Crick and Lisa Barker who also ran.

We had a cracking men’s team too, with Osama Baldo, Danny Chatfield, Mark Buckle and Stu Meadows as our scorers, and Nick Emmett, Craig Walton, Charlie Wallace, Graham Knights, Jason Twigg, James Russell, Anthony Cribb and John Gray contributing to a really solid men’s team overall.

Colin, we hope your calf recovers very quickly. It was great to spend some time with club mates and enjoy the tea provided afterwards too!

So a fantastic start to the season – well done everyone! Let’s keep up the momentum and see you all at the next fixture, Sunday 23 November at Bourne Woods.

Thanks to Colin for being perfectly placed to take these action shots of the water splash not too far from the finish…

Message from Hannah, XC Captain

“Let’s get the Southern League XC season kicked off in style! This is a great location, nice and local, and there’s a proper tea on offer afterwards, with all proceeds supporting Basingstoke club to help replace the assets they lost in the fire recently. It’d be wonderful to have as many of Team HRR there as possible – come and enjoy racing as part of a team on a cracking trail and hanging out with club mates along the way. Car sharing encouraged; please jump on the WhatsApp group to arrange (and feel free to message me if you are not on the group and would like to be). Any questions, please get in touch, and if you plan to come, please reply to the invite – and tag your club mates and get them to come too! Don’t forget you’ll need to wear a club t shirt or vest. Further details in the invitation below. Let’s do this!”
