Wow! What an amazing day for the last fixture in this year’s cross country season – pretty much perfect conditions, such a beautiful course through the woods under blue skies and sunshine.
We fielded a slightly smaller team than we have done the rest of the season with 7 men and 8 ladies, but there were smiles all round and some great running.
Very well done to our scorers – Stephen Barton, Charlie Wallace, Jason Twigg and Ross Maclagan for the fellas, and myself [Hannah Hall], Helen Straker, Helen Hart and Sally Ivey for the ladies.
Congrats to the rest of the team too – you never know whose other club scorers you might have pushed down the list! – Pete Maidment, John Gray and Spin for the men, and Jane Mercer, Claire Crick, Lisa Barker and Julie Leppard for the women.
Great to see Claire back after several months off with an injury. Sadly Trudie and Jane both had to pull out of the race with injuries so we wish them speedy recoveries. Many thanks to Matt and Colin for all the photos and cheering.
Altogether a great season for us with the Southern League, and a particularly strong turn out from our men this year. We’ve been missing some of our faster ladies recently, but with a bit of luck they’ll be back next season and it’d be great to see what HRR can do if we field both strong mens and ladies teams. And if you’ve not yet given cross country a bash but might have been tempted by the photos and write ups to give it a go, I hope very much to see you next season!
